Reid Enriches the Office of CMO

Dr. Kirk Reid, our vice chair for the Department of Anesthesiology, has accepted a new role in the UMMC Office of the Chief Medical Officer.

“This change in leadership will greatly enhance [the office] and help set future direction,” said Dr. Alan Jones (’99), associate vice chancellor for clinical affairs.

Reid, the new vice chief of staff, “is known as a superb clinician, an outstanding teacher and a steady presence in navigating difficult situations,” Jones said.

Because of his relationships with many physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses and others, he is offering valuable leadership to the medical staff, Jones said.

After receiving his medical degree at UMMC, he did postgraduate training in medicine and anesthesiology at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.

He joined the UMMC faculty in 2015 as an associate professor of medicine in the Department of Anesthesiology, and became medical vice chief of staff in 2016.
